The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Poland and an international trade expert, Omooba Adekunle Ayoola, on Saturday pleaded with President Bola Tinubu to help with the release of six Polish students and a lecturer reportedly arrested in Kano State during the Endbadgovernance protest.
Ayoola, a Chieftain of the ruling party from Odogbolu Local Government area of Ogun State but based in Warsaw, Poland, on Saturday, begged President Tinubu to use his good office to facilitate the release of these students and their lecturers in the spirit of deepening the bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
The trade expert in a statement, explained that the Polish citizens were on academic exchange programmes to the country.
Ayoola said ''it is regretted that the Polish nationals were said to have been found at a wrong place and at a wrong time.
"However, these students are said to be in the country for academic exchange programmes and we should guide against what can hinder deeper academic cooperation in between the two countries.
"I therefore plead that in the spirit of deeper bilateral cooperation, President Bola Tinubu should please passionately look into this disturbing issue and help these students to regain their freedom so that they can focus on their primary purpose of coming to Nigeria".
Report has it that the seven Polish citizens detained are students of Oriental Studies from the University of Warsaw along with one of their lecturers.
They were arrested in the northern city of Kano for participating in protests against the government which turned violent. They were accused of waving Russian flags during the demonstration.
The Polish foreign ministry said they had not been taking part in protests but were merely taking photos, adding that consular services are in touch with the detained students
